Nicolas Hatzfeld is a professor of contemporary history. Most of his research focuses on the history of work and workers in the 20th century. He particularly studies the experience of factory work by crossing methods of history and ethnography, labour politics and social movements, as well as filmic representations of work. He is a member of the Association française d'histoire des mondes du travail.
